Kruger,Ernesto Renato; Penha,Tania Regina; Stoffelo,Daura Regina Eira; Roehe,Paulo Michel; Ribeiro,Magda Costa; Soccol,Vanete Thomaz.
Bovine Herpesvirus 4 (BoHV-4) is a member of Gammaherpesvirinaesub-family and belongs to genus Rhadinovirus. This virus has been associated with different clinical manifestations and research activity has put forward a strong correlation among virus infection, postpartum metritis, and abortion. The goal of this work was to characterize a virus strain isolate from a cow’s uterine outflow. From swabs drawn of uterine secretion, a virus strain was isolated and characterized by its cytopathology, morphology, and molecular biology approaches. In culture there was CPE development, characterized mainly by long strands with several small balloons along them, radiated from infected cells. Electron microscopy analysis revealed virus particles that had icosahedrical...

Chemotaxonomic Fingerprinting of Chilean Lichens Through Maldi and Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry BABT
Santos,Leonardo Silva; Soriano,Maria del Pilar Camarantin; Mirabal-Gallardo,Yaneris; Carrasco-Sanchez,Veronica; Nachtigall,Fabiane Manke; Pereira,Iris; Pereira,Eugenia.
The aim of this work was to study a fast, new, sensitive, and simple method for the chemotaxonomic classification of Chilean lichens (Teloschistes chrysophthalmus, Ramalina farinacea, Usnea pusilla, Ramalina chilensis and Stereocaulon ramulosum) using MALDI-TOF-MS and UPLC-ESI(-)-MS data. Lichens soluble proteins fingerprints were acquired by MALDI-TOF-MS and they were analyzed by chemometric (PCA). Lichens organic extracts fingerprints were obtained by UPLC-ESI(-)-MS. MALDI-TOF-MS associated with chemometric analysis was used to detect new m/z patterns of soluble proteins that were compared with Protein Data Bank of UnitPro. These data also permitted the satisfactory distinction among the families and species. UPLC-ESI(-)-MS fingerprints analyses of the...

Feature Level Two -Dimensional Arrays Based Fusion in the Personal Authentication system using Physiological Biometric traits BABT
Carol .J,Jerusalin; Fred,A. Lenin; Daniel,Ashy.V..
ABSTRACT The fingerprint, knuckle print and the retina are used to authenticate a person accurately because of the permanence in the features. These three biometric traits are fused for better security. The fingerprint and knuckle print images are pre-processed by morphological techniques and the features are extracted from the normalized image using gabor filter. The retinal image is converted to gray image and pre-processing is done using top hat and bottom hat filtering. Blood vessels are segmented and the features are extracted by locating the optic disk as the centre point. The extracted features from the fingerprint, knuckle print and the retina are fused together as one template and stored in the data base for authentication purpose, thus reducing...

Minimizing maternal effect in salmonid families mixed since eyed stages and a posteriori DNA-pedigreed ArchiMer
Haffray, Pierrick; Vandeputte, Marc; Petit, V.; Pincent, Cedric; Chatain, Beatrice; Chapuis, H.; Meriaux, J. C.; Coudurier, B.; Quillet, E.; Dupont-nivet, M..
Application of DNA parentage assignment for commercial selection in aquaculture is still rare. An experiment was performed to quantify and to minimize maternal effects on growth in rainbow trout. Six hundred families were reared until 198 day post fertilization (dpf) according to two different procedures. In the first procedure (NORM), all families were pooled at eyed stage. In the second procedure (MIN), where maternal effects due to differences in egg size were expected to be minimal, the spawns were divided into sub-groups with similar mean egg weight at eyed stage. These sub-groups were then pooled when they achieved the same mean body length (147 dpf). Genetic parameters were estimated for body weight, body length and condition factor at 198 dpf, with...

Molecular fingerprinting of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae isolates using AFLP markers Scientia Agricola
Silva,Aline dos Santos; Oliveira,Eder Jorge de; Haddad,Fernando; Jesus,Onildo Nunes de; Oliveira,Saulo Alves Santos de; Costa,Maria Angélica Pereira de Carvalho.
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae W.L. Gordon (FOP) is one of the most important fungal pathogens of passion fruits. Understanding molecular variation of isolates from different areas is of utmost importance. Molecular fingerprinting on 14 isolates of FOP were conducted using AFLP molecular markers (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism), and their genetic variability were estimated. Twenty-five AFLP primer combinations were selected for amplification of FOP isolates and one for Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense W.C. Snyder & H.N. Hansen (FOC), resulting in 99% polymorphic fragments, with an average of 40 fragments per primer combination. Specific fingerprints could be generated for most of the isolates evaluated; we observed a high power of...

Phenotypic and genotypic variant of MDR-Mycobacterium tuberculosis multiple isolates in the same tuberculosis episode, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil BJMBR
Andrade,M.K.N.; Machado,S.M.A.; Leite,M.L.; Saad,M.H.F..
Assuming that the IS6110-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) changes at a constant rate of 3.2 years, this methodology was applied to demonstrate, for the first time, variant patterns of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in multiple isolates obtained at short time intervals from sputum and blood of an HIV+ patient with multiple admissions to the Emergency Room and to the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) Reference Center of a secondary-care hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In sputum, the IS6110-RFLP appeared in isolates with two variant patterns with 10 and 13 IS6110 copies. However, blood presented only the pattern corresponding to 10 copies, suggesting compartmentalization. With regard to the exact match of 10 of 13 bands, this may...

DNA fingerprints are DNA banding patterns obtaining from DNA samples that have been undergone through molecular genetic processes. These DNA fingerprints can be used to identify the genetic relationships or differences among individuals. DNA fingerprints will be very useful for plant varietal protection in the future, especially for those economically important crops. Regarding to plant varietal protection, an information used to describe agronomic characteristics of a given plant variety should follow Mendelian rules and not be affected by environments. DNA fingerprints of 33 Thai recommended rice varieties were conducted by using 32 DNA markers. The DNA banding patterns at each locus were compared to allele standards that have been conducted from 17 rice...
